ABOUT US
BATALJONEN DROP-IN works with performing arts where anyone who wants to can take part, regardless of previous experience. Over time, BATALJONEN DROP-IN has developed methods and approaches that hallenge the prevailing ideals, norms, and ideas that remain deeply cemented within the performing arts. Our vision is a cultural sphere where everyone participates on equal terms, thereby contributing to a socially sustainable cultural development.
Leading this work and driving the project are Saga Björklund Jönsson and Hanna Morau. Since 2014, they have worked with participatory projects where anyone can join, regardless of prior experience of being on stage. BATALJONEN DROP-IN collaborates with other cultural groups, platforms, organizations, and individuals with different experiences of performing. The focus is on engaging participants of all ages and with diverse social, geographical, religious, functional, and linguistic backgrounds.

In these productions, participants take part through a drop-in/drop-out model, meaning you can attend as many rehearsals as you wish or are able to, and you may choose to participate in the entire rehearsal or just a part of it.
Our overarching goal is to enable anyone, together with others, to create and take part in a performance. In this way, social networks and communities are formed. People who might never have met in their everyday lives suddenly sit together, drinking coffee and talking about life and the world.
A long-term change we strive for is to become a safe place in Gothenburg where everyone can feel welcome and meet in a creative and artistic context in a simple and accessible way. Without registration, categorization, or demands for planning and commitment from participants. We believe that platforms like this play an important role in today’s segregated society, which urgently needs opportunities for us to meet and see each other beyond the categories that otherwise divide us. This, in turn, builds relationships, counters exclusion, and increases mutual understanding.
